PROPANE gas cylinders / TANKS

State law requires all loads be covered before transport.

Compressed gas (propane) cylinders, such as those for a camp stove or grill, are considered scrap metal. This includes MSR fuel canisters. All containers must be completely empty

You may either call ahead to a Scrap Metal Dealer, or bring them out to the MCSWD to be recycled at No Charge. Do NOT place them in with your curbside recyclables!

Tanks that are not emptied can be received through the HHW Program for a fee. Appointment Required.

Fees are the following:

  • 1 lb tank or less (propane) $2 each

  • 20 lb tank (propane) $10 each

  • 20 lb tank (oxygen, helium) $16.50 each

While there are numerous online instructions on how to refill 1-lb/DOT39 propane tanks, we strongly encourage you to NEVER do this. Watch the video below for details on the dangers of refilling these tanks.
